Preparing your PomobookThis is an optional step, however it is very useful. Number all the pages in your notebook, and then leave four free pages at the front of your notebook. These act as index pages, where you note down the page number for each day so you can easily find them again.
Each of your days takes up two pages; the page on the left is the todo page, where your write down tasks, along with urgent and unplanned todos. The page on the right is your log; this is where you log your pomodoros, distractions, notes, and urgent and unplanned tasks (these are later transferred to the left page during a break). Let's start with the left page. The left pageTo start off, write the date in the top left corner, where you can quickly see it. Then, write the day in the middle - if you want, you can add the month to it.
Leave a line, then write task. These are where your todos will go. The bullet points are checklists; when you finish a task, cross them out. To the right of the left sheet, your right how many pomodoro's you think the task will take up. For example, I thought learning my Spanish controlled assessment would take up 12 pomodoro's. Predicting the amount of pomodoro's something will take helps you organise your tasks according to the day and your schedule. Once you have finished writing out your tasks, go halfway down the left page. Here, put the header 'Urgent/unplanned'. These are tasks you come up with during the pomodoro session. Some of these tasks may be large tasks, so you may want to predict how many pomodoro's they will take up. And that's the left page! |
Right pageThe right page is your pomodoro tracking page. When you start a task, write it at the top. Then, start tracking.
When the timer rings, put a dot. This shows that the timer has gone off, and you have completed your pomodoro. If an external distraction occurs, put a '/' to show that you were distracted and the pomodoro is void. You don't count void pomodoros towards your total.
Notes are denoted with a '-'. Notes are used when you want to jot something that you read down quickly. Tasks are the same as when you added them to the left page. However, when you take a break and you transfer your tasks from your log to the left page, you write a '>' over them, to show that they have been moved over. So, you've finished your task. Now, move all your unplanned tasks over to the left page, and mark them with a '>' in your log. Then, count how many pomodoro's you completed, and write this next to the task name. Keep doing this for each task until you have finished your day. |
At the end of the day
Once you have finished your day, count up how many pomodoro's you used in total, and add them to the top right of the left page. Look over your unchecked tasks, to see if you forgot to check some. Then, set up the next day's log. Put the date and day at the top, and then move your uncompleted tasks from both the top and bottom (unplanned/urgent) list. Mark the tasks you have moved with a '>', like you did in your log. Then you're ready for the next day!
